The Brief
Make an eight-page minizine about a phobia, go!
I got assigned arachnophobia for this project and luckily for me, I had a great case study to make sure I got it right: my dad! This zine is aimed at showcasing all the things about spiders that specifically freak out my dad (and I did a pretty good job if his reaction was anything to go by).
Luckily, I had a classmate who was interested in preserving spiders and she had a collection of them for me to photograph for this project. My goal (besides freaking out my dad) was to show how the phobia works – in this case by highlighting the eyes, the legs, the idea of how a spider moves, and what the phobia encompasses in general.
I had a great time with this project and it’s one of the class projects I want to come back to eventually and remake one day for real.
Maybe don’t go through the slideshow if you have arachnophobia though, I’ve freaked out just about everyone with even a passing fear of spiders with this project when talking about it in person. I take it as a compliment, honestly.
